Ph.D. candidate Rachel Bayless has been selected to receive a prestigious 2013 Tanner Teaching Assistants Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, as selected by the University Committee on Teaching Awards. Rachel’s selection for this award was driven in part by enthusiastic praise from her students, who described her teaching as “inspirational” and “one of the most gifted instructors I have ever had in any course at UNC.” Rachel was recognized publicly in a half-time ceremony at last Saturday’s men’s basketball game, along with other recipients of this year’s University Teaching Awards. This university-wide award follows the Department’s own recognition of Rachel’s teaching through her receipt of the 2012 Linker Award for undergraduate teaching by a graduate student in Mathematics.

Congratulations to Rachel for this important and well-deserved recognition.
