Hawkins speaks at MAA NC State Dinner

The annual North Carolina State Dinner of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) was held Tuesday night at Davidson College. Our own Prof. Jane Hawkins was the guest speaker for the dinner, giving a presentation titled “Coding, Symbolic Dynamics, and Automata: Efforts to Simplify the Complex World.” In the description of her activities accompanying the advertisement for this event, the organizers drew special attention to her research in the fields of ergodic theory, dynamical systems, and complex analysis, her leadership in the American Mathematical Society (AMS) governance where she is currently Treasurer, her repeated activities at the George Washington University Summer Program for Women in Math, and her collaborations with colleagues from several colleges across North Carolina.

Congratulations to Jane for the honor of her selection to give this address at the annual dinner.
